Bangles in yellow, white, rose or black gold and diamonds: $11,050 - 25,200 USD at Bergdorf Goodman

The jewelry most dear and near to my heart were created by my good friend, Jewel Artist Cindy Chao.  I have two treasured pieces from her, one a custom ring made of stones my husband gave me throughout the years and the other a pair of stunning yellow and white diamond hoops (currently at Bergdorf Goodman!) that I just got this summer.  Once you own a piece of Art Jewel from Cindy Chao, it is really difficult to wear any other jewelry, including that of Cartier or Bvlgari.  And it matters not that it takes her 2-3 years for a custom piece (by invitation only-- you have to be pre-approved before you're allowed to buy her creations!) because Cindy's jewels are worth the wait.  Those of you who crave instant satisfaction need to head to Bergdorf Goodman (212-753-7300) immediately, limited collection pieces of her White Label there right now (including the bracelets above) that are selling like hotcakes!

In my opinion, there is no other living jeweler more talented than Cindy right now and apparently The Smithsonian Institute agrees.  The National Museum of Natural History at the Smithsonian Institute recently inducted Cindy's Royal Butterfly Brooch into its permanent collection!  I can not tell you what a huge honor it is to be the only living jewel artist at the museum let alone one who is merely in her 30s.  If you're in NYC, please visit The Museum of Natural History to view this incredible butterfly.

Cindy's 2009 Royal Butterfly Brooch (featured on the cover of WWD) contains a vibrant "Royal Butterfly" balanced by a pair of rough diamonds on the scales. With entirely different coloration and design patterns on front and back, the miniature art work is mounted with 2,318 diamonds and gemstones. The National Museum of Natural History's collection also includes the deep blue Hope Diamond, Napoleon Diamond Necklace, Marie Antoinette's Earrings and the Inquisition Necklace.  As you can see, Cindy is in very good company indeed.  I am so very proud of my friend, she is a dedicated artist with an unwavering sense of integrity to her art.

Pinkie rings: $12,500 - 23,300 USD
Cindy is also well known for her unique pinkie rings, they shimmer and move with your hand and are so interestingly designed that it always causes people to stop and stare!  Limited collection available at Bergdorf Goodman right now.

There are two designs that you will see consistently in Cindy's work: butterflies and hearts (her middle name in Chinese is "Heart").  The reason each piece of Cindy Chao jewel takes years to create is due to the meticulous process that every piece is put through.  First, stones are selected, 5 out of 6 stones get rejected if the color or grade is not up to Cindy's standards.  Next, each mold is made of hand poured wax that Cindy does herself.  Finally, the setting of the stones take months because once again, it gets set at least FIVE times before Cindy is satisfied that the stone is properly placed.  When you think some of the pieces have over 2,000 stones you can imagine the time and work it takes for each amazing jewel!

This incredibly ornate brooch above with multi colored diamonds and gorgeous heart shaped sapphire is aptly named "The Tipsy" and is part of Cindy's Master Piece collection.  This is a special glimpse for our Jewel Snob readers as Cindy does not allow her master pieces to be photographed often!
